L・eye improves work efficiency

Solar sharing, which brings stable income from selling electricity, gives farmers dreams and helps solve problems such as a lack of successors.
With this in mind, Hashizume Kenzai Co., Ltd. is working on solar sharing at its own farm together with a local Western-style confectionery shop.
We spoke with Managing Director Hashizume Hiroshi about the remote monitoring system and service L-eye, which the company decided to introduce to improve work efficiency in blueberry cultivation.

Why did you start solar sharing?

In Ise City, there are many agricultural promotion areas where photovoltaic generation facilities cannot be built, making it difficult to introduce field-based power generation facilities. While considering ways to utilize such areas, I learned about solar sharing, which can be installed in agricultural promotion areas, and became interested in it, thinking that it could help farmers realize their dreams. In order to propose it to customers, I thought that I had to try it myself first, so I began working on a demonstration experiment of solar sharing.

Background of the introduction of the remote monitoring system

We are currently using solar sharing to grow blueberries in pots. We installed a remote monitoring system because we wanted to be able to check not only the power generation status, but also the amount of water and nutrient solution in the pots at any time, which are very important for blueberry cultivation.

What made you choose our system?

The deciding factor was the powerful words from your company's person in charge: "Let's think together about what will benefit farmers." L・eye has built a system that allows us to check the water content in the pots at any time, so we can use it with peace of mind. I hope that in the future, more functions will be added that will lead to labor savings in agriculture.

How do you use the remote monitoring system?

In blueberry cultivation, it is important to keep the water and nutrients from drying out, but going to the farm to check the dryness of the soil and the remaining amount in the nutrient solution tank takes time and effort. Also, because the frequency of dripping the nutrient solution changes depending on the season and time, it was hard to predict when to replenish it.
So we installed moisture sensors and nutrient solution sensors and set them to send email notifications when the soil dries out or the amount of nutrient solution remaining in the tank gets low. This eliminated unnecessary trips and improved the efficiency of our work.

Impressions of introducing solar sharing

We feel that the value of farmland that had not been utilized before has been restored through the income from selling electricity from solar sharing, which has led to a reduction in abandoned farmland and an elimination of the lack of successors.
In addition, when cultivating blueberries, the shade from the panels prevents leaf burn and moisture evaporation, reducing the labor required for farm work in the summer.

Future outlook

Our desire to "solve the problem of abandoned farmland" has been endorsed by experts from a wide range of fields active in the same region, and we are working on "Local Solar Sharing."
We hope to contribute to the local community through events and other activities in collaboration with beekeepers who produce honey, a Mie specialty, farmers who manage the flower fields where beekeeping is carried out, our company, which grows blueberries, and a Western-style pastry shop that makes sweets using honey and blueberries. We will continue to aim to be a power generation business that brings joy to the local community.
